PM says no silence over crimes committed by Baathists

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki on Sunday said that his government would never stand still towards Baathists’ crimes of summary executions, genocides and psycho-physical torture.
“The judicial must be fair to the wronged Iraqis and their families that have watched their own offspring slain and mutilated right before their eyes,” Maliki was quoted in a statement published by the cabinet’s Web site.
Maliki gave the remarks during a meeting with the mother of Ihsan Ali Hussein, who had been killed by Fedayeen Saddam, as shown in a videotape played by Iraq’s Supreme Criminal Court.
“This video only represents yet another page in the black book of Saddam Hussein’s time. History repeats itself. We are proud to disclose this regime’s ugly face to the world,” the premier added.
Fedayeen Saddam was a paramilitary organization loyal to the former Baathist government of Saddam Hussein. The name was chosen to mean “Saddam’s Men of Sacrifice”. At its height, the group had 30,000-40,000 members.
